The fortuitous discovery of the “Golden Cross” is a blessing to which every breeder aspires. For the Farrell Family & Mulawa Arabian Stud, the most abundantly successful matings of the last decade have been those of the home-bred KLASS with the prosperous daughters of the late MAGNUM FORTY FOUR.
The most prolific proponent for this Golden Cross with KLASS has been the Shane Edward Arabians-bred MUSTANG’S MAGNUM, a standard setting show superstar who became the first purebred Arabian filly in Australia to finish her yearling season undefeated at all three of the continent’s largest and most prestigious events. Now enjoying leading Aristocrat Dam status at Mulawa with another perfect record of ‘seven shown - seven champion’ produce to her credit, ‘Maggie’ has proven a particularly extraordinary mate with KLASS. To date, all five of her KLASS produce are of international caliber; of these, the eldest sisters KLASSICAL DREAM MI & MI KLASSIC FANTASY, are the only two to have been shown.
As the first daughter of MUSTANG’S MAGNUM, KLASSICAL DREAM has indeed set a unprecedentedly high standard for all of her sisters to attain. A four-time undefeated East Coast Champion as well as both Australian National Champion Junior & Senior Mare prior to her exportation, KLASSICAL DREAM MI has since been honoured with championship accolades on an impressive five continents for proud owner Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Thani of Al Khalediah Farms, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Tall, elegant, superbly conformed and uncompromisingly feminine, KLASSICAL DREAM has established herself as one of the most universally admired Arabian mares on the planet, while simultaneously raising the profile of and respect for Australian Arabian horses in the process.
Just eleven months younger than KLASSICAL DREAM, the highly anticipated MI KLASSIC FANTASY was beloved from birth as the best filly from KLASS’ second foal crop. Born in late November 2010, nearly halfway between her sire’s second Australian National title as Champion Ridden Arabian Stallion and third as National Champion Working Stock Horse, KLASSIC FANTASY was just the fifth purebred filly sired by KLASS. Her exceptional type and superlative structure, however, did much to confirm her sire’s remarkable prepotency and growing importance as a sire of international quality progeny.
A key member of the Mulawa show team as a yearling, MI KLASSIC FANTASY followed in her elder sister’s and dam’s footsteps by winning the prestigious title of East Coast Champion Yearling Filly. Competing with Mulawa-bred MI HARMONY at the Australian National Championships later that same season, KLASSIC FANTASY finished very strongly just behind her reliably effervescent stable mate as National Reserve Champion Yearling Filly, completing her yearling season with even a more impressive record than elder sister KLASSICAL DREAM.
As the KLASS daughters are more often than not rather slow to grey out, retaining a steely-dapple colour well past their junior show seasons, the difficult decision was made to turn the very dark, nearly charcoal-coloured KLASSIC FANTASY out at Alabama Stud as a late yearling to give her time to grow and mature at her own pace. As a result, KLASSIC FANTASY was the first KLASS daughter to join the Mulawa broodmare band, blessing the program with very first second-generation SAHTARAH Family descendant just prior to her fourth birthday in 2014. Sired by the Mulawa-bred international champion KAVALLE MI, this gorgeous ultra-exotic filly was aptly named FANTASIA MI. Admired as one of the best young fillies of Generation Next, FANTASIA earned both her sire and her dam their very first champion progeny accolades the following September by winning the Junior Filly Championship on her one and only outing at the NSW State Titles.
Settling later in the season for second foal, KLASSIC FANTASY delivered ENGAGE MI, by ALLEGIANCE MI, just after the New Year in 2016. Granting his dam a perfect record of ‘two for two’ champion produce, the charming and superbly conformed ENGAGE was named East Coast Champion Yearling Gelding at his first show in 2017. Having raised two champion foals in her first two seasons as a broodmare, KLASSIC FANTASY has proven the virtue of not only the KLASS daughters as mares of exceptional merit, but the descendants of MUSTANG’S MAGNUM as breeding horses of incomparable renown.
Not only had KLASSIC FANTASY become whiter while fulfilling her broodmare duties at Alabama as expected, she began to develop a richly flea-bitten coat with distinct bloody streaks through her forehand, appealingly evident on her shoulders as well through her neck and head. Drier, more refined and more exotically beautiful as a senior mare, MI KLASSIC FANTASY returned to the Mulawa show team in the winter of 2016 with more exuberance and confidence than ever before. Tall and imposing with same unmistakable femininity and allure of elder sister KLASSICAL DREAM, KLASSIC FANTASY proved to be an even harder working show horse, giving 150% in her training while creating an image of uncompromising harmony of proportion at the stand-up with her elegant upright forehand and superbly balanced structure.
With Cameron Bonney back at the lead for her return to show ring, KLASSIC FANTASY achieved not only the National Stud Show Champion Senior Mare honours this past season under US judge Corky Sutton, but most importantly, the ultimate continental accolade as Australian National Gold Champion Senior Mare under a distinguished panel of American, Canadian & Australian judges and breeders in March 2017. Earned with the highest score amongst all senior entries at the event, KLASSIC FANTASY’s Gold National Championship became the third earned by a daughter of KLASS as National Champion Senior Mare, establishing him as the unchallenged leading domestic-bred sire of the new millennium. Setting yet another record for the new millennium with her Gold National Championship, MI KLASSIC FANTASY & KLASSICAL DREAM MI are forever remembered as the first full sisters to be named Australian National Champion Senior Mares.
In the six short years of her enchanted life, KLASSIC FANTASY has exceeded expectations on every level. As a show horse, she has been recognized by leading breed authorities as a high scoring entry and a Gold National Champion. As a breeding horse, she has proven her superior prolificacy with two top-quality champion produce. On the international stage, the story of achievement and success for MI KLASSIC FANTASY, although yet to be told, is one of great promise and abundant possibilities. For Mulawa & the Farrell Family, no matter how spectacular the journey ahead, her enduring legacy will forever be a FANTASY fulfilled…
