The National Champion Mares of Mulawa

For over four decades, mares have been the cornerstone of the Mulawa program. Proudly stewarding 16 dam families from 12 unique dam lines, Mulawa has thoughtfully assembled and bred a world-class collection of broodmares that continue to raise the standard of excellence in Australia. From this superb group of mares, Mulawa is honoured to have bred the last successive five Australian National Champion Mares.

The first of these five to win in 2011 was MULAWA KARISMAA, a first-generation Mulawa-bred champion sired by the legendary MAGNUM PSYCHE and out of the incomparable Mulawa foundation mare KARMAA. Undefeated in the season she won the Senior Mare Championship, MULAWA KARISMAA claimed the Champion Senior Mare titles at the Queensland Gala Event, National Stud Show & East Coast Championships. A dual Australian Champion, having won the title as a yearling filly, KARISMAA is also the dam of two champion produce: full siblings KONQUEST MI -East Coast & National Stud Show Champion; and KARISMAYA MI - Australian National Top Ten Champion.

Following KARISMAA as Australian National Champion Mare was PARADA, a fourth-generation Mulawa-bred female by MAGNUM FORTY FOUR and out of PRESENCE. Affectionately known as “Australia’s Sweetheart”, PARADA was one of the most successful show mares ever campaigned Down Under, have been National Stud Show, East Coast Champion, Queensland Gala Event & Australian National Champion as a Junior Mare, as well as East Coast Senior Champion Mare. The most celebrated descendant of Mulawa foundation mare DZINA, PARADA has proven her infinite worth as a broodmare, with five champion produce to her credit giving her Aristocrat Dam status. These champions include: Scottsdale, World Cup & Menton Gold Champion PRUSSIA MI; twice Australian Champion, East Coast Champion & National Stud Show Champion KLASSICAL PRESENCE MI; Australian National & East Coast Champion KANE MI; Queensland Gala Event Champion PRAVIA MI; and Champion Gelding Under Saddle PLATINUM MI.

The third Mulawa-bred National Champion Mare was another daughter of the late great MAGNUM FORTY FOUR: MULAWA ASPIRING. A third-generation Mulawa-bred female from the dam family of JIAH ASPIRE, ASPIRING has been a consistent producer of quality fillies, including National Stud Show & East Coast Champion, as well as Australian National Reserve Champion, MI ASPIRING VALENTINO.

The first daughter of KLASS to be named National Senior Champion was KLASSICAL DREAM MI, a second-generation Mulawa-bred member of the SAHTARAH family. One of the all-time most successful mares ever shown in Australia, KLASSICAL DREAM was an undefeated four-time East Coast Champion as well as a twice Australian National Champion, winning her Senior Mare title unanimously. KLASSICAL DREAM won her final National Championship for new owners Al Khalediah Stables (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), before embarking on a worldwide campaign that has since earned DREAM Gold Champion titles in the UK, Belgium & Morocco, Bronze Senior Champion Mare honours in Dubai, and Top Ten accolades in Paris at the World Championships as well as Supreme Top Ten garlands at the Arabian Breeders World Cup in Las Vegas.

The most recent Australian National Champion Mare bred by Mulawa is ALWAYS VALENTINE MI, another unanimous winner and the highest scoring senior female of the show. A seventh-generation Mulawa-bred champion, ALWAYS VALENTINE is a member of the invaluable dam family of M ANGELIQUE, renowned for producing some of the most accomplished saddle & halter horses in the breed. Her dam, ALWAYS AN ANGEL, has produced two equally successful full siblings: Australian, Canadian & United States National Champion VALENTINO’S ANGEL MI; and undefeated National Stud Show, East Coast & Australian National Champion VANGELIS MI. ALWAYS VALENTINE’s dam, ALWAYS AN ANGEL, achieved record setting status in 2015 as the dam of three unanimous Australian National Champions, as the dam of two undefeated Australian National Champion Yearlings, and as the dam of two undefeated full siblings at the National Stud Show, East Coast Championships & the Australian National Championships in the same season.

A special mention should be made of the very first Mulawa-bred Australian National Champion Mare MULAWA EUNIQUE. The daughter of foundation horses AMBITION & EUNI, she claimed the prestigious title in 1984 prior to being offered for public auction the following February in Scottsdale.

We are all incredibly proud of these Mulawa-bred champions, and their record-setting status in the breed. Each of these Australian National Champions represents a unique Mulawa dam family, while several of these mares have already gone on to produce champion progeny of their own. We look forward to their continued contribution to the breed, and to consistently continuing to raise the standard of excellence in Australia and around the world with the Mulawa-bred mares.
